Laurie Ballard MacKenzie recently made a decision — a decision to step up and lead fellow horsemen, horsewomen and families in a campaign to bring Mainers to the harness racing tracks. Living in Plymouth, Laurie has long been a member of a Maine harness racing family. A major disappointment for today’s harness horsemen is the lack of a fan base. Laurie along with other horsemen have decided to tackle this issue. Laurie created the “All Heart” Campaign. Maine harness horsemen lead much the same life lived by the 19th century harness horsemen. Being in this business is an authentic way of life and just hard work. Most people relate to the 2:00 minutes of racing on the track. Those 2:00 minutes for those who place in the top five receive a payday. The storyboards associated with this post represent a sample of the people who will be reaching out to the people of Maine to bring the fan base back to the grandstands.
