John R Braden, a pacer that found fame in the 1920’s racing in Aroostook County and throughout the State of Maine, was purchased by a club in Presque Isle, Maine. This purchase proved so successful that other Aroostook County towns (Caribou and Houlton) purchased pacers to dethrone the Aroostook County Champion. The storyboard below presents an article and images of John R Braden. In Presque Isle there is a theater named after the horse. It is told that Braden attended a feast in his honor at a local hotel. Braden was the get of John R Gentry, a pacer attempting to be the first Standardbred to break the 2:00 minute mile.
